Correct citation<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Laws and other legal norms are cited with their official title upon first mention in the text, e.g.<\/abbr>, \u201cB\u00fcrgerliches Gesetzbuch (BGB<\/abbr>)\u201d. If the same law is mentioned again later in the text, a distinction is made:<\/p>\n

If it stands alone<\/b>, without a paragraph or article, the name continues to be written out in full, e.g.<\/abbr>: \u201cB\u00fcrgerliches Gesetzbuch\u201d.<\/p>\n

If, on the other hand, a paragraph or article<\/b> of this law is cited, the law is referred to only in its short form after the first full mention, e.g.<\/abbr>: \u201c\u00a7 1626 BGB<\/abbr>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Example:<\/b> The definition of a \u201cyouth\u201d according to the Sozialgesetzbuch (SGB<\/abbr>) is very narrow, set between 14 and 18 years of age (\u00a77 SGB<\/abbr> VIII para.<\/abbr> 1 no.<\/abbr> 2). After that, until the age of 27, the term \u201cyoung adult\u201d applies (\u00a77 SGB<\/abbr> VIII para.<\/abbr> 1 no.<\/abbr> 3).<\/p>\n

If a different version is cited, the official date of publication must be given (\u201cdated\u201d = \u201cd.d.<\/abbr>\u201d or \u201cin the version dated\u201d = \u201cin the ver. d.d.<\/abbr>\u201d), or the date of entry into force (\u201centered into force on\u201d).<\/p>\n

Example 1:<\/b> Art.<\/abbr> 10 „Grundgesetz“ for the Federal Republic of Germany (GG<\/abbr>) in the revised version published in the Federal Law Gazette Part III, structure number 100-1, last amended by the law d.d.<\/abbr> 29 July 2009 (BGBl. I<\/abbr> p.<\/abbr> 2248).<\/p>\n

Example 2:<\/b> \u00a7\u00a7 27\u201335 Eighth Book of the „Sozialgesetzbuch“ \u2013 Child and Youth Services \u2013 (Article 1 of the Law d.d.<\/abbr> 26 June 1990, BGBl. Legal commentaries<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

Legal commentaries are explanations of legal norms such as laws and regulations, usually written by people working in the field (e.g.<\/abbr>, judges) or by academics (e.g.<\/abbr>, professors). Depending on the case, they reflect the state of legal development as well as the perspective of the authors.<\/p>\n
