The layout \u2013 in other words the page design of your paper \u2013 should be clear and functional.<\/cite><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

  • Font and font size:<\/b> Use a simple font, e.g.<\/abbr> Times New Roman or Arial.<\/li>\n
  • Captions:<\/b> All tables, equations, figures, and schemes must be numbered in the order in which they are mentioned in the text; examples: \u201cTable 1\u201d, \u201cFigure 1\u201d \u2013 It is best to use the automatic captioning function of your word processor. All figures and tables must be introduced in the text.<\/li>\n
  • Use abbreviations and acronyms<\/b> sparingly but consistently. At the first mention, the full term must also be given.<\/li>\n
  • Nomenclature, symbols, units:<\/b> The rules and recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC<\/abbr>), the International Union of Biochemistry (IUB<\/abbr>), and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP<\/abbr>) should be followed. Furthermore, the DIN<\/abbr> EN<\/abbr> ISO<\/abbr> 80000<\/b> must be observed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Formatting the document<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

    • Italic<\/i><\/b> type is used for symbols of physical quantities, but not for the corresponding units, e.g.<\/abbr>: T<\/abbr><\/i> for temperature, stereochemical descriptors (cis<\/i>, E<\/i>, R<\/i>), locants (N-Methyl<\/i>), symmetry and space groups (C2v<\/sub><\/abbr><\/i>), and prefixes as in \u201ctert<\/i>-Butyl\u201d, but not for Latin expressions such as \u201cin situ\u201d.<\/li>\n
    • The stereochemical descriptors D-<\/abbr> and L-<\/abbr> as well as the terms molar (M) and normal (N) should be written in small caps<\/b>.<\/li>\n
    • Oxidation states<\/b> should be written in small caps in parentheses when the element name is written out, and as superscript when using the element symbol; example: iron(II) resp.<\/abbr> FeII<\/sup>; iron(III) resp.<\/abbr> FeIII<\/sup>.<\/li>\n
