Writing the Theoretical Part of Your Thesis

Faculties: AC, AMP, AR, BI, EFI, IN, MB/VS, SOH, VT, WT

In the theoretical section—also called the fundamentals section—you place your topic within a broader context and explain the key concepts and terminology relevant to your work. This section also serves to highlight the significance and timeliness of your topic by discussing the current state of the art or research. It is important to clearly and transparently outline the assumptions and foundations on which your own work is based, so that your later results can be interpreted and evaluated on a solid footing.
