Designing the Cover Page

Every scientific paper has a cover page: It is one of the formal elements that appear before the main content of your work. The cover page is the first thing your readers see. Therefore, it contains all essential information at a glance: the title of your paper, personal details, as well as information about your module and your faculty or university, and more.

Elements of a cover page

  • Authors with student ID and email address
  • Title, if applicable with subtitle – this does not necessarily have to be the research question
  • Semester and year of submission
  • Submission date
  • Title of the course for which the paper is submitted
  • Module to which the course belongs
  • Lecturers of the course
  • Degree program
  • Faculty and university
  • Type of paper, e.g. term paper, project report, bachelor’s thesis, etc.
A cover page does not have a page number.
