Language in Social Science Texts

There isn't the one academic language. A lawyer writes differently than a political scientist, and the latter writes differently than a social worker. Even within a single discipline, there are variations: One researcher may write more formally, another more vividly; some qualitative researchers use the personal pronoun “I”, while quantitative researchers prefer an impersonal passive style. However, there are some fundamental requirements for the language used in academic texts, which are explained in this article.
