Citing in Engineering and Natural Sciences

Faculties: AC, AR, BI, IN, SOH, VT, WT

Referring to the ideas and findings of other researchers is not only permitted in academic writing but mandatory. However, both direct and indirect quotations must always be clearly referenced. In engineering and natural sciences, in-text citations are often made using numerical references—i.e., a number in square brackets. There are different cases and types of citation to consider.
